Global supply chain software provider Blue Yonder has reportedly fallen victim to a ransomware attack, PYMNTS reports.
The ransomware attack has disrupted operations for high-profile customers, including coffee giant Starbucks and U.K. supermarket chain Morrisons.
Why does this matter? When supply chain software fails, companies like Starbucks and Morrisons may face operational delays, stock shortages, and revenue losses.
Cyber security in logistics
Blue Yonder’s platform allows retailers, manufacturers, and logistics providers to meet customer demand through delivery planning. The company works with over 3,000 businesses globally to ensure they have sustainable and profitable operations.
On Monday, a company spokesperson Marina Renneke said Blue Yonder experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which was determined to be the result of a ransomware incident.
Late last year, another big industry player was plagued with a cyber security breach, this time being logistics giant DP World Australia.
Locate2u reported the impact was significant, as Australia’s largest terminal operator handles 40% of the country’s maritime freight.
The cyber security breach forced the company to go offline for three days.
Expert weighs in on cyber attacks
Following the DP World Australia cyber security breach, Locate2u sat down with Troy Hunt, Microsoft regional director, web security consultant, and owner of the blog “Have I Been Pwned.”
In the exclusive interview, Hunt told the publication it only takes the [cyber] attacker once to get it right.
Blue Yonder, a company with clout
The company’s capabilities have even seen it bring on automotive clients. In March 2023, Honda digitally transformed its supply chain with Blue Yonder. This has allowed it to monitor inventory movement and automate both its planning and production processes.
In April 2023 global analyst firm Forrester Research named Blue Yonder a “Strong Performer” in The Forrester Wave – a guide for buyers considering their purchasing options in a technology marketplace.
The publications described Blue Yonder as “the best fit for firms that are making a slow transition away from legacy solutions and that need to add modern optimization support now.”
