To provide customers faster and more efficient services in and around Geelong, online retail behemoth Amazon has unveiled its latest logistics site in Geelong West.
This strategic move is poised to alleviate delivery pressures, especially during the bustling festive season.
Geelong is getting the Amazon treatment
Marking its 12th logistics site in Australia, this facility holds particular significance as it is Amazon’s first foray into regional Victoria. Its logistics centers play a crucial role in the final stages of the delivery process. Here, packages are shipped from the company’s fulfillment centers before being collected by Amazon Flex drivers, who then deliver last-mile to customers’ doorsteps.
Establishing this hub is expected to generate additional employment opportunities within the Geelong community. These jobs encompass various facets, including operations within the facility and opportunities for individuals to join the Flex workforce as delivery drivers.
Tim Coventry, Amazon Australia’s logistics country leader, says, “We’re thrilled to be contributing to the Geelong local economy through the creation of jobs and flexible earning opportunities with our new logistics site, and look forward to being an active member of the community.”
He also emphasizes how building infrastructure closer to customers’ residences enhances delivery efficiency.

The Greater Geelong mayor, Trent Sullivan, recognizes the potential. “Amazon’s arrival will accelerate the revitalization of the precinct and is a clear signal to other investors that Geelong is a great place to do business,” Sullivan says.
Flex(ing) its muscles
This giant e-tailer’s flexible delivery driver program allows individuals to work according to their vehicles’ schedules, and it is set to play a pivotal role in its operations at this new facility.
Earlier this year, the e-tailer onboarded over 1,000 seasonal workers in Australia for the mid-year sales season. The same is bound to happen for the upcoming holiday season.
These opportunities become available at its fulfillment centers (FCs) and logistics sites nationwide. Additionally, Flex offers earning opportunities through package deliveries for those seeking flexible work arrangements.
Delivery partners with Amazon Flex can choose delivery block times that align with their schedules and receive weekly compensation for their services.
The new parcel hub in Geelong is set to increase employment in the region and attract more customer support for Amazon. This strategic move is to invest in more rural and outlying areas in Australia. Hopefully, it pays off.
