Etihad Cargo, the logistics arm of Etihad Airways, is expanding its network with a new route to Madrid. Starting 15 July 2024, they will operate two weekly Boeing 777 freighter flights between Abu Dhabi and Madrid, adding over 200 tons of cargo capacity for Europe.
This new service will increase the total number of flights to Spain to 25 per week. Etihad Cargo currently offers belly capacity on 10 passenger flights to Madrid, 10 to Barcelona, and three seasonal flights to Malaga.
Why does this matter? These enhancements support the growing demand for fast and efficient e-commerce delivery, benefiting both businesses and consumers.
This expansion underscores the importance of these destinations, especially Madrid as a key European fashion hub. It also aims to enhance e-commerce connectivity from Asia to Europe through Etihad Cargo’s Abu Dhabi hub.
Etihad Cargo servicing fashion and e-commerce
Etihad Cargo’s hub in Abu Dhabi is a key link between East and West, offering efficient and reliable services for the fashion industry and other sectors that need timely e-commerce deliveries.
Etihad Cargo’s new route to Madrid adds to its European freighter network, which already includes six weekly flights to Amsterdam, and three weekly flights to Frankfurt. The total freighter flights to Europe will now be 11 per week.
Additional summer schedule changes:
- Two weekly seasonal flights to Nice.
- Flights to Athens increase to 14 per week (two via Mykonos, two via Santorini).
- New route to Antalya with three weekly flights.
- Flights to Istanbul increase from 10 to 14 per week starting 22 July 2024.
- Dublin will have three more flights from 23 July 2024, totaling 10 per week.
Stanislas Brun, vice president for cargo at Etihad Cargo says: “Launching Madrid as Etihad Cargo’s latest European freighter destination supports the growing demand for e-commerce flows between Asia and Europe. Madrid’s role as a key fashion hub makes it an essential destination for the carrier’s freighter network.”
North American cargo capacity
To meet the growing demand for air freight between East and West, Etihad Cargo will add 250 tons of weekly capacity to North American destinations like New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, and Toronto.
These flights will connect through European cities like Lisbon, Barcelona, Madrid, and Rome. They will follow Etihad Cargo’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure smooth service for partners and customers.
