Authorities are investigating the theft of cigarettes and significant property damage caused by the perpetrators.
The Geelong Advertiser reports that the superstore re-opened on Friday afternoon. A police spokesperson told the publication that the vehicle involved in the raid reversed into the glass door.
A video of the incident – as shared by The Gold Coast Bulletin – shows the extensive damage to the storefront and the interior. The criminals also smashed open a secured cabinet and fled the scene with a stash of cigarettes.
Details of the vehicle have not been shared with the public as yet, and investigations are ongoing.
Earlier this month, a white Ford Ranger was involved in a ram-raid robbery at a Coles supermarket at the Chisholm Village Shopping Centre.
A police spokesperson said officers responded to a report of a ram-raid where the vehicle was “driven through the front doors of the Coles supermarket.”
It is believed that two people wearing black clothing and balaclavas drove through the storefront’s doors at around 2:30 am on 22 May. No cash was taken from the site, but several items were stolen.
