DHL Express is building out its capacity and gearing up for a nearly 9% rise in global e-commerce sales this December peak season.
The logistics company is spending more than $111 million on expanding its air cargo and ground handling capacity. It will be deploying eight new Boeing 777 freighters.
DHL anticipates an e-commerce growth
DHL Express has acknowledged that “despite ongoing uncertainties” in the overall global economy, it’s still expanding its capacity.
They are expanding their international parcel sorting and delivery network to “ensure a successful peak for customers.”
CEO John Pearson says DHL Express is committed to “remaining the partner of choice during the busy end-of-year peak season.” He says December is an important period for the business as well as a challenging time for customers.
Pearson says e-commerce continues to be a vital and growing sector of the global economy. “Current challenges like geopolitical tensions and trade barriers have led to the need for reorganizing supply chains, but they have not restricted the sector’s inherent dynamism.”
DHL expands its capacity for December 2024
DHL says they are making the necessary investments to maximize the resilience of their global network.
The company has also invested in additional handling and sorting capacity in its ground network. This includes its facilities in Copenhagen, Cologne, Paris, Atlanta, Brussels, and East Midlands (UK).
This is to allow for more flexible flying schedules and to reroute cargo in the event of heavy demand or supply chain disruption.
A sustainable future for DHL
Alongside these capacity investments, DHL Express says it remains focused on its longer-term commitment to provide emission-reduced delivery services.
“DHL Express was the first global express courier to give customers the opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas (CHG) emissions using DHL GoGreen Plus Services,” reads the statement.
