Pickers, packers, shippers, any extra hands that can ease the pressure off the existing workforce. Amazon Australia is on a hiring spree for seasonal workers. This is to keep up with the expectations of customers and volume orders.

The largest e-commerce company is hiring 1,400 seasonal workers to help ease the workload at warehouses across Australia ahead of the mid-year sales season.

According to Amazon, there are about 700 jobs available in New South Wales, 350 in Victoria, and the rest in Queensland and Western Australia.

Amazon’s mission is to be the “most customer-centric company” by making customers’ lives easier. “We’re building the future, one innovative product, service, and idea at a time.”

Amazon’s goal in Australia

In February, Amazon took over the leading role as the best marketplace in Australia, kicking dust in the eyes of eBay. It was a historic moment, which new research from Pattern pointed out.

A ‘Marketplace Consumer Trends Report – 2024’ report showed that the tables had turned in Amazon’s favor in Australia.

Pressure is mounting on Amazon to stay in the top spot in Australia, realizing it has to do the following:

  • Prioritize speedy delivery.
  • Focus on the quality of products.
  • Concentrate on prioritizing customer care.

The report also noticed a 59% growth in consumers starting their online shopping experience by searching for products on Amazon first. In contrast, the number of customers turning to eBay first for online shopping in Australia declined by 19%.

Speedy delivery

More packages are leaving Amazon warehouses lately, as the company aims to deliver parcels the same day or the next day. It’s feeling the heat with rivals Shein and Temu competing for the same online sales.

CNBC reports the company had nearly 60% of its orders placed through Pirme in the top 60 US metros. Of which all in the first quarter arrived on the same or the next day. That’s nearly 50% more than the second quarter of 2023.
