Yodel and Delivery Mates partner to transform service in Glasgow

Sustainable delivery solutions provider Delivery Mates is teaming up with parcel carrier Yodel to expand its service in Glasgow, Scotland. This initiative will bolster the delivery landscape in the city and provide efficient and sustainable solutions for businesses.

The partnership will now see Delivery Mates and Yodel leverage cargo bikes for their Glasgow operations. Each year, Yodel delivers over 190 million parcels for many UK retailers and businesses.

Kevin Savage, CEO of Delivery Mates says: “By incorporating cargo bikes into our operations, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also actively contributing to improving the urban environment in Glasgow.”

Sustainable delivery solution

Here are some benefits to the partnership:

  • Environmental Impact: Using cargo bikes significantly reduces carbon emissions and will promote a cleaner, greener Glasgow.
  • Traffic Congestion Reduction: By opting for cargo bikes, Delivery Mates and Yodel will alleviate traffic congestion in the city.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Cargo bikes offer a more agile and efficient means of navigating urban environments, leading to faster and more reliable deliveries.

Last-mile deliveries in the UK

Yodel is no stranger to industry partnerships. In October, the company entered a partnership with cloud-based e-commerce shipping solutions company ShipStation.

The collaboration sees Yodel join ShipStation’s platform which will allow merchants to select Yodel as a delivery service. This integration will allow small and medium enterprises to enhance their delivery experience and meet changing customer demands.

The demand for pre-loved clothes saw Yodel expand its partnership with Vinted in December. Most of the Vinted items will be delivered to over 6,000 Yodel stores in the UK via its partnership with PayPoint’s Collect+ network.

Yodel finds a buyer

Locate2u reported previously that Yodel were scrambling for a buyer before it was placed under administration.

Then, on February 13, Yodel announced it had been acquired by YDLGP Limited. YDLGP also agreed on terms to buy the entire issued share capital of Shift, the tech logistics scale-up that acquired and relaunched Tuffnells in June 2023.

Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, said at the time of acquisition: “We’re extremely excited to begin the next chapter of Yodel’s journey, leveraging the scale of our business with the support of new shareholders and the future benefits of the Shift technology platform.”

In January, Yodel appointed Simon Chave as its new Chief Information Officer. Chave joined Yodel’s tech leadership team since joining the business in 2020.

Delivery market in the UK

Express Market Research reports that the United Kingdom Courier, Express, and Parcel market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7% in the next eight years – some good growth.

“Rising demand for fast and convenient delivery options have shifted the focus of courier, express, and parcel service providing companies towards exploring alternative delivery methods and enhancement of last mile logistics, aiding the United Kingdom courier, express, and parcel (CEP) market growth,” reads the report.
