Saturday delivery: AusPost Metro service expands in Melbourne

AusPost has announced it will now offer Saturday delivery for customers in Melbourne. The service will be available to most residential addresses and parcel lockers within its metro network in Melbourne.

Gary Starr, Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services, says, “An extra delivery day is great news for consumers in Melbourne, reinforcing our commitment to providing them with greater certainty, simplicity, and speed when they order online – elements we recognize are crucial for online shoppers.”

Delivery to major metropolitan customers

In August 2023, the company launched a metro service – a next-day delivery service. It is also now available in Brisbane and Sydney.

At the time of the launch, Locate2uNews reported Group CEO Paul Graham emphasized, “We’ve been listening to our customers, and know they expect more certainty, simplicity and speed when ordering online. The Australia Post Metro service raises the bar for customers – prioritizing next-day delivery in metropolitan areas.”

Starr adds that the company has successfully delivered over one million parcels in the six months since Australia Post Metro. The company expects a huge increase as the demand for products grows.

Australia Post Metro customers in Melbourne include Adore Beauty, Myer, Big W, Super Retail Group, and Frank Green, and Kogan.

Following the launch in Melbourne, AusPost will look to expand the metro service in other states.

In January, AusPost and Myer announced a three-year strategic partnership. This will see Myer’s online customer experience enhanced. The postal service is now Myer’s main e-commerce fulfillment partner.

Parcel locker innovation

In November, AusPost launched an automatic parcel locker service. Now, missed delivery parcels will be placed in a free 24/7 parcel locker within one kilometer of the customer’s address.

Customers will be notified via the AusPost app or SMS that their parcel has been placed in a secure locker. The package can be collected at a convenient time by the recipient. If the parcel is not collected within 48 hours, AusPost will take it to the nearest post office for collection.

Customers with a MyPost account or the AusPost app can already register to have their parcels delivered at no extra cost to any parcel lockers convenient to them instead of their home or workplace.
