Poste Italiane has announced a record operating result (EBITA) for 2023, equal to €2.62 billion ($2.8 billion), a 9.4% increase compared to 2022. This is more than double compared to 2017.

The company’s financial services revenues grew 5.9% year-on-year to €5.2 billion ($5.6 billion) in 2023. The growth was driven mainly from the interest margin and postal savings products which have recorded a very solid performance in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Company CEO and GM Matteo Del Fante says: “In payments and mobile, all business lines achieved solid results, also thanks to the consolidation of LIS, and once again achieved double-digit growth in operating profitability.”

Poste Italiane launches refrigerated delivery service for food

Last month Poste Italiane launched a new refrigerated food delivery service called PosteGoFresh. The service is being done by MLK Fresh, which is a joint venture between Poste Italiane subsidiary MLK Deliveries and Mazzocco, — a company that specializes in refrigerated transportation.

Refrigerated products can now be transported along the entire supply chain — with temperature control. The service is powered by technology. Customers can schedule a delivery at a time of their choice.

Italian parcel delivery service market

Mordor Intelligence reports the Italian courier, express, and parcel (CEP) Market size is estimated to grow at an annual compounded growth rate of 4.27% in the next six years. “The domestic and international segments of the Italian CEP market are being driven by robust e-commerce growth and adoption in the country.”

The report adds that Poste Italiane is the most used courier for parcel deliveries among Italians while Amazon Logistics is another favorite parcel delivery company in Italy.

E-commerce users in the country are projected to reach a massive 55.97 billion by 2027. This is due to an “increasing preference for shopping online from domestic and international e-retailers, thereby majorly boosting the courier industry.”

The report shows that consumers in Italy are rapidly shifting toward purchasing products through e-commerce. This is due to the availability of several choices, higher convenience, easy accessibility, and lower costs.

Fastest-growing markets in Europe

A report by management consultant company Oliver Wyman says Italian parcel delivery is one of the fastest-growing markets in Europe. The report highlights some key changes in the parcel delivery market.

“The exponential expansion in volume has brought its share of disruption and unprecedented challenges to traditional carriers as well as shippers. In particular, it has changed their relationship with end customers who now require a higher level of service because they rely on parcel delivery for a substantially bigger percentage of their needs.”

The report adds being able to meet those demands has become a competitive edge for players looking to increase their share of the market.
