Derailed deliveries: Queensland braces for Cyclone Jasper

Derailed deliveries: Queensland braces for Cyclone Jasper

A tropical cyclone is expected to form off Queensland’s coast in the next few hours. Eastern Australia is expected to see rain and storms.

The Daily Mail reports that recent modeling indicates Brisbane could face the impact of the first cyclone for the season, Jasper.

Weather services say the cyclone could start affecting Queensland’s coastline early next week. Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra can also brace for a wet week.

Reports suggest that the cyclone will be intensifying by tomorrow [Wednesday] and heading south-southwest before it could even turn into a tropical cyclone from Thursday.

Meteorologist Livio Regano says it’s quite early in the season to have such a powerful cyclone. “It’s in that transition phase. Very soon, we will have a cyclone on our hands.”

Disaster teams are urging residents to start preparing now. Carolyne Doherty is from Queensland Emergency Services, and she told 7 News: “Know what’s happening as the event unfolds.” She’s also urging Queensland residents to check in with local emergency authorities.

Deliveries in storm

Usually, in lousy weather like this, travel advisories are released, urging residents to stay indoors and postpone plans to be on the road. Most residents respond to these calls but demand home deliveries to ensure they are ready to stay indoors.

This often results in delivery vans and scooters buzzing around in the wet streets, delivering last-minute orders in affected communities.

In August, a hurricane hit California, which resulted in flash floods and mudslides. However, despite the severe warnings, Amazon drivers were still making last-minute deliveries to the community, risking their lives. It also affected airport traffic, which halted imports and exports for a few days.

Despite the widespread concern among travel and logistics companies, the delivery sector was still pushing for more business.
