Diversifying the pool of delivery companies you are using can have a significant impact on customer service.

Locate2u spoke to small business owner Tracy Breedt of Standard Beauty about optimizing delivery costs when your budget is limited.

Balancing speed, cost, and time is tricky, but Breedt has found that partnering with multiple courier companies diversifies their options and could significantly improve the budget.

“Speed is very important to us. Today’s consumer wants their package today or tomorrow.” Standard Beauty decided to partner with entry-level courier companies who are eager to help out quickly at a good rate.

Are customers willing to pay more for faster deliveries?

“No, people want faster deliveries, but they want it for free,” says an honest Breedt.

But how does Standard Beauty keep their delivery costs down? Their secret is to “hunt in the market” for lower prices by using a larger pool of delivery companies.

Breedt warns that the most expensive courier is not always the best service. “It’s the customer who you want to look after at the end of the day.”

Mitigating cost and expectation for parcel wrappers

Every customer wants to have that ‘TikTok experience’ when they open their parcel. Influencers on social media have started a trend of filming how they unbox parcels at home.

This has led to small businesses investing more time and money in wrapping the parcel to ensure the filmed unboxing experience is memorable and attractive to new customers.

“You want people to record it on TikTok and have this entire experience. But you also can’t put all your money into that. How do you manage that? So it’s a little bit of a balancing act,” warns Breedt.

She says, however, that it’s more important to their small business to deliver intact beauty products rather than skimping on the safety of the parcel.
