Freight forwarding specialists Kuehne+Nagel have opened a new logistics hub at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris. The latest addition allows the company to increase its global airfreight capabilities. 

Kuehne+Nagel is one of the world’s leading logistics providers with almost 1,300 sites in 100 countries. 

The 12,900-square-foot facility has dedicated 4,500 square feet of space for healthcare products as the company looks to strengthen its healthcare logistics solutions in the region. The hub will have the capacity to handle 300 air freight pallets a week. It will also give the business access to new markets in high-tech, luxury goods, aerospace, industrial and automotive. 

Kuehne+Nagel has dedicated space for cold rooms and temperature control areas in the hub. 

The importance of France in logistics 

In 2022, Charles de Gaulle Airport received CEIV Pharma certification by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) due to its high standards of pharmaceutical products. 

This is the largest cargo center in Europe. It has one of the world’s best connection networks. France has the second-largest rail network in Europe which is important for logistic operations within the country. It also borders seven European countries and has easy access to the sea. The IATA reports that France’s major air cargo routes are the US, UAE, China, Japan, and Qatar. 

Leading player in logistics 

Logistics providers are using France’s geographic location and international network connectivity. Logistics providers are also new technology at Charles de Gaulle to assist in operations. In 2016, the world’s largest express transportation company FedEx, its expansion plans at the airport, with technology boosting sorting capacity by 40%

DHL opened a facility at Charles de Gaulle in 2021. This hub has a sorting capacity of 38,000 items. 

The French government actively supports logistics activities in the country, ensuring supply chain support. In 2022, the government invested $6 billion in the maintenance and construction of highways. 

Air charter network

This month Kuehne+Nagel launched its freight plane, a B747-8, which will operate three charter connections between Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The flights will serve healthcare, perishables and, semiconductor industries. Airfreight is popular among companies with time-sensitive cargo. Companies making use of airfreight with be glad about this development. 

Apart from its new air charter announcement, last month the company officially opened its expanded temperature-controlled facility in Chicago, US. The facility will help the company’s customers improve their temperature-controlled supply chain.

The company was founded in 1890 by August Kuehne and Friedrich Nagel as a freight forwarding company in Bremen, Germany. It has evolved from a traditional shipping company in its early years to a global logistics corporation. The company has a global presence, offering logistics solutions for major industries.
