UPS (NYSE: UPS) has announced it will acquire Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL, both leading healthcare logistics providers in Germany.
This acquisition will strengthen UPS’s end-to-end capabilities in Europe, catering to the growing demand for temperature-sensitive and time-critical logistics from UPS Healthcare customers.
Pharma drives demand for Integrated cold chains
US EVP healthcare and supply chain solutions Kate Gutmann says the fast-paced innovation in the pharmaceutical industry is creating the need to have more integrated cold and frozen supply chains.
“Frigo-Trans will help deepen our portfolio of solutions for our customers and accelerate our journey to become the number one complex healthcare logistics provider in the world addressing their needs,” says Gutmann.
Supply chain solutions for healthcare industry
UPS Healthcare is a division of UPS (United Parcel Service) that specializes in providing logistics and supply chain solutions for the healthcare industry.
The company offers a number of solutions, which include cold chain solutions. Here the business offers temperature-controlled logistics solutions to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of temperature-sensitive products.
This includes vaccines, biologics, and other pharmaceuticals. This includes refrigerated, frozen, and cryogenic shipping options.
It also provides specialized warehousing services tailored to the needs of the healthcare sector.
UPS business developments in healthcare logistics
Earlier this year, UPS Healthcare unveiled a substantial expansion in Italy, incorporating two key locations – Passo Corese, near Rome, and Somaglia in Lodi.
This development introduces an additional 100,000 square meters of warehouse capacity, significantly enhancing the company’s logistics capabilities. The company is investing $59.6 million for this initiative.
Cold chain logistics market
Fortune Business Insights reports the global cold chain logistics market is expected to achieve good growth in the next eight years.
“Consumers are nowadays more conscious about wellness and health, and the effect that food nutrients, particularly protein, have on overall mental and physical development.
