The United States Postal Service (USPS) says it’s ready for the 2024 holiday season, which will see an influx of deliveries at homes.

The state postal service is investing in extra workers, technology, and logistics. This is to help boost their efficiency and ensure they keep high standards of reliable service.

‘Faster deliveries’ heading your way

“This season, our network’s strength ensures faster, more affordable deliveries,” says USPS chief retail and delivery officer Joshua Colin.

With a sharp focus on speed, USPS is revamping 83 sorting and delivery centers and 506 new package sorting machines. This will expand its daily processing capacity to 60 million items

It’s all part of a $40 billion investment aimed at increasing reliability and efficiency.

Affordable holiday shipping options

Sending that Christmas gift to family this festive season requires early planning, says the postal service. Customers are encouraged to ship early to avoid seasonal delays.

“Our shipping solutions make holiday planning easier and more affordable,” claims chief customer and marketing officer Steve Montieth.

USPS is roping in extra hands

USPS is hiring 7,500 seasonal employees, fewer than in past years. They hope to still cope with the influx of orders and service requests.

With no major disruptions reported, USPS hopes to deliver on its promise of timely service.

“Thanks to strategic progress, we’re ready to meet the holiday demand,” Colin affirmed.

Customers ready to spend online

The US consumer is showing signs of strength, especially among upper-income earners.

The world is entering a critical spending season with Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas still ahead.

Karen Harris, partner at Bain & Company, says plenty of consumers are preparing to spend this time of the year.

“Upper-income earners are becoming increasingly optimistic in their outlook and are telling us they intend to spend more freely,” she says.
